  Manually Joining your Computer to the Active Directory Domain  

If you are unable to join the domain by using the Domain tool, you can manually setup your computer to connect. 

Please Note: Before you proceed to the instructions below, please verify that your computer has been named correctly, with an approved prefix. If you are unsure of whether or not your computer has been correctly named, please contact your department System Administrator or the Help Desk by email at helpdesk@uidaho.edu or by phone at 208-885-HELP (4357).

  1. After you have verified that your computer has been named correctly, go to your Start menu, right click on (My) Computer, then select Properties.

  1. If you are using Vista, within the System Preferences window, select Change Settings (Figure 2a). If you are using XP, go to the Computer Name tab at the top, then select Change (Figure 2b).

  1. Verify your full computer name is accurate.  In Vista, you will need to select Change within the Computer Name tab to alter the domain to ad.uidaho.edu (Figure 3a). In XP, you will need to select the radio button Domain and enter ad.uidaho.edu (Figure 3b).

  1. You will be prompted to enter your myUIdaho Username and Password and must restart your machine for the changes to take place.
